How's the Nutanix Cluster ?

The often asked question … As you deploy, implement and/or use any new technology, there is a phase where most people keeps wondering if things are working the way it should until it’s assumed everything is OK.
To this day, some still can’t believe that you can move virtual machines between hosts with no downtime.
As faster broadband gets rolled out, we all do speed tests to “check” … (or is that just me?

New Home setup

Like the blog, some slight changes I had started to describe and toy with a few things in a previous post about my home Internet and the upcoming NBN.
NBN After much delay because I’m on the HFC version of the NBN, I finally got connected. You hear about all the horror stories but my NBN tech was very professional and made sure that all cabling was nice and tidy.

New Blog Setup

Some slight changes I have described my blog setup in a previous post and while I’m not an avid blogger (yet?), this setup became a bit too complicated for my liking.
I’ll follow the same structure as my previous post to explain …
Website creation The website is still created with Hugo but I switched themes, from Ghostwriter to Clarity.
I also run hugo locally on my FrankenBook (a beefed up Late 2009 MacBook) for faster rendering, checking content locally, preparing future posts, trying new things like new themes and easier to upgrade.

NCC : Automator to the rescue

NCC : Automator to the rescue What is NCC NCC is a built-in tool in the Nutanix stack to help check overall health of your clusters. Some have rightfully called it The Swiss Army Knife of Nutanix Troubleshooting Tools.
It does a number of checks ranging from known driver issues to obsolete firmware and more. Personally I run it semi-regularly or before doing anything special on clusters (update/upgrade, expansion). In short, it’s a great tool.

The home router project

Why a DYI home router ? My internet access is currently Internode ADSL2+ using a TP-Link modem and and Airport Extreme that takes care of PPPoE, firewall, WiFi (and some 1GB switch ports) and a Sipura device to get VoIP. The National Broadband Network will soon be deployed in my area using HFC (cable TV).
This should give greater speed (although being close to the exchange I get around 18Mbps) and less dropout (old house = old cabling = 1-2 dropouts everyday).

Nutanix and Meditech

How to make Meditech better by using Nutanix Introduction I have dealt with the Patient Administration System made by Meditech for 9 years. I don’t consider myself a guru on how to use this application but I think I know a thing or two that might help others. I will not comment on how well or bad the application is designed but only on the infrastructure side of things.
Let’s say it’s very “traditional” … and to make Meditech accept changes can be challenging.

The Setup for this blog After some testing with various tools I found a setup that works for me, so here it is …
Website creation The website is created with the static generator Hugo and the Ghostwriter Theme.
Hosting My hosting provider has been Webfaction for a number of years now.
Yes, you might find cheaper providers.
No, they are not the latest most whiz-bang provider.
What Webfaction has been for me is reliable, cheap enough with plenty of flexibility around tools (1-click installer, ssh access etc …)
